Land Mobile - Coverage Interpretation
The plot paints the ground around the base station with colour according to the received signal at the mobile or portable. The limit is the received signal input in the Receiver Threshold (dBm) parameter input box. See the section on Computing the Threshold Value for how to calculate this. It is unlikely to be the same as the bench sensitivity of the mobile or portable.
Anywhere coloured exhibits at least the threshold. Then as the colour moves up the spectrum from blue to red, more signal will be received. Areas not coloured fall short of receiving the threshold although they may get some signal. In these unshaded areas the locations probability will fall below the target or there will be a lower certainty of achieving the locations probability where a planning margin has been added.
Given a correctly calculated threshold, a ground survey can be carried out and the coverage plot validated.
Most errors in this type of plot revolve around incorrect selection of threshold.
